Stephen raises ODA cuts with Foreign Secretary

Earlier today, Stephen wrote to the Foreign Secretary asking whether she might look again at raising the Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) budget.

Stephen’s letter was on behalf of a number of constituents who are supporters of the Borgen Project. The Borgen Project is an international non-profit organisation that looks to alleviate poverty and hunger around the world.

In his letter, Stephen advised the Foreign Secretary of his constituents’ concerns that ODA was being diverted to the UK's defence spending.

Speaking later, Stephen said "I am grateful that my constituents have taken the trouble to get in touch about this important matter.

“The UK has a proud history in helping overseas countries. I am sure the Foreign Secretary will take into account the concerns of my constituents as she looks to spend our overseas development budget more effectively than ever before.”
