Stephen welcomes discussions about recognising Palestinian state
Stephen has welcomed news that the UK is discussion with France and Saudi Arabia over the recognition of a Palestinian state at a June conference convened by the two countries.
The news came after 69 Labour MPs and six Labour peers wrote to Keir Starmer asking that he work with France to recognise Palestinian statehood. The letter told the Prime Minister to take the “unique window of opportunity” to recognise Palestine, which French President Emmanuel Macron has hinted he will do.
Speaking about the announcement, Stephen said: “Palestinians must be given a credible route to Palestinian statehood, as is their inalienable right. I know the UK Government will continue working with partners to support a path to long-term peace and stability with a two-state solution including a safe and secure Israel alongside a viable and sovereign Palestinian state.”
