Stephen has urged Ministers to take action to prevent the damage of educational buildings in Gaza.

A number of constituents have contacted Stephen asking him to address the alarming attacks on Palestinian schools. Since hostilities began, hundreds of higher education students and staff members have been killed, and many education buildings have been damaged or destroyed across Gaza. UNICEF, the children’s charity, found in November 2023 that over 625,000 students and over 22,000 teachers in Gaza had been affected by attacks on education. 61% of schools had sustained damages.

Having re-iterated his call for a ceasefire, Stephen said: “The scale of death and destruction seen in Gaza over the last two months has been intolerable. I share concerns that schools and other civilian infrastructure are not being protected during Israel’s military operations in Gaza. Israel must submit to the rules of international law and schools, education and innocent lives must be protected during conflict.”
