Stephen supports moves to stop trade talks
Stephen has supported the Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, in his summoning of the Israeli ambassador in London. It came after the UK suspended its free trade agreement talks with Israel in a landmark.
David Lammy told the House of Commons last month that the he condemned the “Israeli government's egregious actions and rhetoric", adding that the government is "isolating Israel from its friends and partners around the world". He later criticised Israel for expanding its military operations in Gaza and restricting the entry of humanitarian aid.
Speaking afterwards, Stephen said: “…The UK cannot stand by in the face of the deterioration in Gaza. It is incompatible with the principles underpinning UK-Israeli relations, and an affront to the values of the British people.
“Regrettably, this Israeli Government’s egregious actions and rhetoric have continued, isolating Israel from its friends and partners, undermining the interests of Israelis and damaging Israel’s international reputation.
“I support the necessary suspension of UK negotiations with this Israeli Government on a free trade agreement.”
