Stephen writes about arms trade with Israel
Stephen has contacted the Trade Secretary, Liz Truss, outlining his concerns about the UKs arms exports to Israel.
Ministers have repeatedly said they continue to monitor the situation between Israel and Palestine. They have assured MPs that procedures in place to review and suspend or revoke licences when necessary. It has, however, been alleged in recent weeks that Israel’s use of rockets are in violation of human rights or international humanitarian law.
The charity War on Want argues that the Government’s approval of arms sales to Israel is “…in defiance of its own export guidelines, while its imports of Israel's 'combat-proven' military hardware help Israel benefit from unlawful practices”.
Speaking about his letter, Stephen said “I am interested to know if the government will reconsider selling arms to Israel given events in recent weeks.”
