The Stephen Timms Summer School is a brand new initiative beginning this summer designed to give young people in Newham a practical insight into politics at national, local and grass roots levels.

The programme will run for three weeks from 21 July - 8 August 2014 with the first week split between the House of Commons in Westminster and Newham Council. During this week students will enjoy access to a number of experienced professionals from the political world and will receive introductory training in public speaking, speech writing, advocacy, handling the media and campaigning.

Students will spend the remaining two weeks with either a charity or community organisation in East Ham working on issues and projects relevant to the local community. A contribution will be provided towards travel and lunch expenses.

Graduates of the programme will gain a solid understanding of the political process and how they can make a meaningful contribution to that process. With the opportunity to see 'behind the scenes' in parliament and to gain valuable experience at a young age, this is an opportunity not to be missed!

The Stephen Timms Summer School is sponsored by London City Airport
