   Stephen Timms Visits Mini-Olympians (29/06/12)

Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham, last week attended the School Mini Olympics, which took place at Southern Road Playing Fields. The Olympics were organised by schools in Plaistow, but Mr Timms was invited by Cleves School of Upton Park, which also participated.

The event encouraged children from primary schools to participate in sport competitions and through them learn the important values of excellence, friendship, equality, courage, respect, inspiration and determination.

The Mini Olympics offered a wide range of activities in which children could participate during this exciting day; short-distance running, tri-golf, athletics, Paralympics sports and big dance to name a few.

Speaking after the event, Mr Timms said: “This Mini-Olympics event has been a roaring success. The children at Cleves School have given their all and will no doubt have realised that maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be a lot of fun. I hope these Olympic Games will inspire more and more youngsters in the Borough to try out different sports and dream that they too may one day compete at an Olympics.”
