Stephen Timms Pays Tribute to Church's Foodbank Project (02/12/11)

Stephen Timms, Labour MP for East Ham, today spoke at City Chapel, meeting at St. Marks Church in Beckton to commemorate the third anniversary of the church, and to celebrate the 2000th donation from City Chapel’s Newham Foodbank.

The ‘Foodbank’ – one of a growing network of over 150 around the country – assists individuals and families in need by providing free emergency food and support.  Food is donated by church members, and by local stores including Lidl and Asda and by others in the community, stored and provided to people via referrals from registered Care Professionals.

Mr Timms – who was present at the inauguration of City Chapel three years ago – congratulated church members on their third anniversary. He praised volunteers in the church for their work on projects like the Foodbank, and paid tribute to the church’s energetic pastor, Rev Jonathan Oloyede.
