Earlier today, Stephen Timms, Member of Parliament for East Ham, met at Newham University Hospital with key health managers to discuss the government’s recent NHS reforms and the issues facing the NHS in Newham.  The meeting was organised by Marie Gabriel, formerly Chair of Newham Primary Care Trust and now Chair of the successor body, NHS East London and the City.

During the meeting, Stephen was briefed on developments at Newham University Hospital, the plans for Clinical Commissioning Groups in Newham, the delivery of community health and mental health services, and Newham’s readiness to deal with emergencies during next summer’s Olympic and Paralympic games. 

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Timms said “It was terrific to speak together to such a wide range of people responsible for the health service in Newham, working hard to improve services right across the board.  In the House of Commons I opposed the Government's massive re-organisation of the NHS, but now everybody has to work together to make it work."
