- MP becomes a master of arts…thanks to school visit (16/07/10)
Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham, visited Gallions Primary School last Friday, 16 July. Along with discussing the school’s future goals and ambitions, the visit allowed Mr Timms to congratulate pupils and staff on their ‘Arts Extravaganza’ which was held on that day. On his arrival, Mr Timms was met by Head teacher Paul Jackson and talked about the school’s recent progress. - Stephen Timms attends 7/7 commemoration event
On the 7th July 2010 Stephen Timms, the Member of Parliament for East Ham, attended a day of remembrance at Newham General Hospital for the victims of the 7/7 attacks. The event was organised by Bridge Builders in Unity, a group that aims to inspire young people to utilise their energies in positive ways in their community. The event was held in Health Central, the recently redeveloped relaxation area at the hospital, and was attended by local community leaders, Councillors, and Newham University Hospital Trust (NUHT) staff. - Stephen Timms blasts “devastating” education cuts (06/07/10)
Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham, today responded angrily to the Government’s cancellation of Newham school building projects. Michael Gove, Education Secretary, announced the cancellation of crucial rebuilding plans for fourteen schools in Newham, including Kingsford School, Little Ilford School and Plashet School. Mr Timms had been recently invited to discuss the proposals to re-develop Plashet School. And last weekend he was at Little Ilford School fete and discussed the proposals informally with the Head Teacher. - Reaction to Tate & Lyle Takeover (01/07/10)
Stephen Timms, Member of Parliament for East Ham, spoke today to Ian Bacon, the President of Tate & Lyle Sugar in Silvertown. This followed Tate & Lyle’s announcement that it had agreed a deal to sell its sugar business to American Sugar Refining, North America’s largest cane sugar, for £211m. Tate and Lyle employ directly over 500 staff at the refinery in Silvertown, which has occupied the current site for over 130 years, and many others working at the plant are employed by contractors. Stephen is aware of recent comment in the media regarding the current court case resulting from the incident in which he was attacked at his constituency surgery on the 14th May 2010. He does not intend to comment further, beyond stating that he is recovering well. - Stephen Timms recovering well (21/05/10)
Stephen Timms, Member of Parliament for East Ham, who was stabbed twice in the abdomen by a constituent at his advice surgery last Friday, is recovering well. He was discharged from the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel on Wednesday 19 April after a five day stay. Mr Timms has been advised by doctors to take a period of leave. - Stephen Timms discharged from hospital (19/05/10)
Labour MP Stephen Timms has been discharged from the Royal London Hospital. As he left, Mr Timms declared that he was "well on the mend". He aded: "I am very pleased to be leaving hospital. I am extremely grateful to the hospital and all the doctors and nurses that have helped me over the last few days and have done a great job. Thank you to all of those who came out to vote in the Parliamentary Elections for East Ham. 50,373 people voted, an increase of 8% on the last election, which is something we can all be proud of. Stephen Timms has signed an asylum election pledge, sponsored by Liberty, the Refugee Council and the Scottish Refugee Council. The pledge calls on Prospective Parliamentary Candidates to "...remember Britain's history as a place of refuge for the persecuted."  Stephen Timms MP has visited Newham’s premier cheerleading troupe, the Ascension Eagles. The Ascension Eagles Cheerleaders (AEC) were formed in 1996 as an outreach project by the Ascension Church Centre. The group have since been recognised as one of the top cheerleading squads in the UK, winning a host of regional and national tournaments.  Stephen Timms, the MP for East Ham, has attended the official opening of the Education Links Independent School in Norman Road, East Ham. The Education Links School - run by charity Community Links – has recently received official confirmation from the Department for Children, Schools and Families and OFSTED that they are a fully registered independent school. The school offers 120 places for pupils who have stopped attending school or have been excluded.  Stephen Timms, the MP for East Ham, has visited Shaftesbury Primary School. After being introduced to some of the year six pupils, Mr Timms was given a tour of the school by members of the School Council, many of whom visited the Houses of Parliament late last year. On Saturday the 23rd January 2010, Stephen Timms, Member of Parliament for East Ham, planted a tree in Plashet Park. The newly planted Dove Tree commemorates the life and work of Jim Coe, former President of the Monega Association. Jim passed away aged eighty in early 2009, after a life in which he overcame personal ill health to devote great efforts to promoting the welfare of the area and its residents. Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham and Minister for Digital Britain recently notched up the 1,000,000,000th minute of usage on 3’s free internet-based calling service, ‘Skype on 3’. Mr Timms clocked up the billionth minute during a Skype call with the CEO of medical aid charity Merlin, where they discussed the organisation’s work in Haiti.  Stephen Timms, the MP for East Ham, recently visited Brampton Manor School. Alongside discussing the school’s future ambitions, the visit allowed Mr Timms to congratulate staff and pupils for the most recent GCSE results – the most successful in the school’s history.  Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham, has visited Little Ilford School. During the visit, he taught a Maths lesson as part of Teach First Week. As Schools Minister in 2001, Mr Timms oversaw the creation of the Teach First. The programmes seeks to recruit, train and place top-flight graduates in inner city schools for a period of two years, to address educational disadvantage through exceptional and inspirational teaching. Stephen Timms MP has today backed the emergency appeal by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) which brings together leading UK charities such as Save the Children, Oxfam and World Vision, to respond to the devastating earthquake which has struck Haiti.
