Stephen yesterday pledged his support to junior doctors striking outside Newham University Hospital by joining them on the picket line.
The industrial action was part of a 48-hour walkout which took place by doctors across England who remain locked in a dispute with the government over the implementation of a new contract.
Whilst meeting with doctors, Stephen was handed a petition signed by over 1,000 people speaking out against the new contract which is being imposed by the government.
Speaking to the Newham Recorder, Stephen said:
“This is a very intelligent group of young junior doctors who we need to depend on to get our health services in the future. I will be giving this letter to Jeremy Hunt and I will tell him the response that the people of Newham do not want this [the contract].”
The next round of industrial action is due to take place on Tuesday 26 April when a full withdrawl of labour between the hours of 8am and 5pm is planned for 48 hours.
