Responding to new reports of the Tory plan to cut £12 billion from welfare, Labour’s Acting Shadow Secretary of State for Work and Pension Stephen said:

"People who work hard, do the right thing and contribute will see their income fall because of the extreme Tory plan to cut billions from tax credits. It's clear that David Cameron and George Osborne's plan to cut £12 billion from welfare will make working families less secure.

'The government should cut the cost of social security by tackling the root causes of rising benefits spending; low pay and soaring rents and cutting benefit fraud."
