Last Thursday, Stephen co-hosted the inaugural Newham Youth Question Time with Lyn Brown, Member of Parliament for West Ham.  The event was chaired by Cllr Seyi Akiwowo and saw Stephen and Lyn join fellow panellists, Detective Superintendent Ian Lander and Cllr Rohsana Fiaz, to answer questions put to them by young people from across the Borough.

Around 50 young people attended the event held at East Ham Town Hall and many more people got involved by tweeting questions using the #NewhamYQT hashtag.  The attendees put a number of questions to the panel which led to a lively discussion on a range of topics from t tuition fees to job opportunities for young people in Newham.

Speaking after the event Stephen said, “The evening was a great success. I was hugely impressed by the questions that the young people put to the panel.  The turnout at the event and the interest shown by the young people who attended demonstrated that young people in Newham are engaged in politics and they can’t and shouldn’t be overlooked by those that represent them.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the young people that attended Question Time, those who tweeted in questions for the panel and the panel members themselves.  I would certainly like to see this and other, similar events happening regularly in our borough.”
