Newham MPs, Stephen Timms and Lyn Brown, will be holding a Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair on Thursday 27 March 2014 at West Ham Football Club. The event, which opens at 10 am, is held is sponsored by Jobcentre Plus.
This will be third Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair being held at West Ham. As in previous years, volunteers from the West Ham United Community Sports Trust will help run the event. Previous fairs have been hugely successful – over eight hundred people attended last year. A significant number of jobseekers were offered interviews and apprenticeships as a result of attending the day.
This year, confirmed exhibitors include London City Airport, Lycamobile, McDonald’s, Crossrail and Tate and Lyle.
Speaking in advance of the jobs fair, Lyn Brown MP said: "I am delighted that Stephen and I have the opportunity to host another jobs fair at West Ham Football Club. We received some great feedback last year and are thrilled that so many local companies have agreed to come along again.
“Many residents in the borough have already expressed an interest in coming along and are keenly looking forward to it.”
Stephen Timms MP said: “The number of young people left on unemployment benefits for over a year has doubled since 2010 under David Cameron’s government. Lyn and I want to do everything we can to help these people – on a local level – find work. Jobs fairs like ours can help them make that first, all important step.”
“I would like to thank West Ham FC for hosting the fair, and to Jobcentre Plus for their support.”
Alison Foster, Relationship Manager for Stratford Jobcentre Plus, said: “As in previous years, we are very pleased to support the jobs fair. It is a great opportunity to bring together local jobseekers and employers who are looking to recruit. I would encourage anyone looking for a job to attend the jobs fair and speak to some of the business and training providers that will be there.”
