Stephen Timms, MP for East Ham, today joined cadets, parents and dignitaries at the Royal Air Force Air Cadets 282 East Ham Squadron Annual Awards evening at East Ham Town Hall. Speaking at the event, Mr Timms praised the organisation for“its longevity and success in providing opportunities to young people” and for“promoting aspiration and instilling motivation in its cadets”. 282 Squadron has enjoyed long term success and continues to grow rapidly whilst being recognised as the best in London and one of the best in the country.
The 282 (East Ham) Squadron of the RAF Air Cadets is one of hundreds of Air Cadet Squadrons around the country. The organisation allows young people the chance to take part in activities like flying, gliding and going away on camps. The organisation for 13 to 20 year olds also provides the chance to play competitive sport, visit RAF bases, learn leadership skills, and gain Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Speaking after the event, Mr Timms, said: “I am delighted to once again join cadets in celebrating a successful year for 282 Squadron. For some time now this organisation has provided opportunities for young people to take part in a superb range of exciting and unique activities which instil them with important life and teamwork skills. The fact that the squadron is going from strength to strength is a testament to the dedication of its members and leaders. I wish them all the best for the future.”
