Stephen Timms, the Member of Parliament for East Ham, today cut the ribbon to open the new Learning Disability Centre at Cygnet Hospital, Winsor Park, Beckton.

This centre is specifically designed to aid women with moderate to severe mental health problems.  It offers intensive therapeutic and clinical care to women who are detained under the mental health act due to their offending behaviour.  Many of the conditions that the patients suffer from are extremely sensitive and this centre’s aim is providing a friendly atmosphere whilst offering essential care.

Speaking after the event, Mr Timms said: “I was delighted to open the new centre earlier today.  The care it will give will offer many women a secure and safe environment in which to progress.  This hospital has always drawn patients from across the country; I hope it will increasingly be accessed by women from our local area, staying close to their families.”
