Stephen Timms MP last week officially opened a new branch of the State Bank of India in East Ham. The branch, which is on High Street North, is the eighth to open in the UK and the first in the East End of London.

The ceremony was hosted by the branch manager Rajmohan Ramadass and was attended by members of staff, representatives from the local business community and by other local figures, including Councillors Omana Gangadharan and Alec Kellaway. Officially opening the bank, Mr Timms praised the efforts of all those who have worked hard to bring the bank to East Ham.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Timms said: “I was delighted to attend the opening and warmly welcome the State Bank of India to East Ham!  I welcome the bank’s emphasis on those Indian businesses and entrepreneurs who want to invest in this part of London – I hope this will really boost the local economy over the next few years.  I am glad that the State Bank of India has chosen East Ham as a place to invest and wish everyone at the bank the very best for the future."
