Stephen Timms, Member of Parliament for East Ham, today visited Kingsford Community School in Beckton to catch up on recent developments at the school. 

During the visit, Stephen met with the Headteacher, Joan Deslandes. Joan spoke passionately about Kingsford’s desire to encourage its pupils to be young leaders in the community. Joan touched on Kingsford’s wish to for every pupil to understand the hard work that has brought the 2012 Olympics to Stratford, and use this as an opportunity for us all to adopt many of the values that are associated with the Olympic Games. Stephen then had the opportunity to meet with a number of Kingsford’s young leaders. Kingsford’s young leaders included the Deputy Head Boy and Girl; Amy Allison and Rakim Yavuzel and also Newham’s newly elected Young Mayor Abraham Male. Abraham gave a short speech calling on everyone to work together to ensure that Newham continues to go from strength to strength. After Abraham, It was Stephen’s turn to speak to the gathered pupils. Stephen spoke about the importance of strong leadership and the positive effects a strong leader can have on his community.  

Commenting on the visit, Mr. Timms said “I have been thoroughly impressed by the ambition and drive of the pupils at Kingsford School. I am certain they will go on to great achievements in future.”
