Speaking after the sentencing of Miss Roshonara Choudhry, Stephen Timms said:

"I am relieved the court process is over. The sentence handed out to Miss Choudhary is appropriate.  It is alarming that an exceptionally bright, young girl, who had everything ahead of her, could be misled into taking the action she did.  It appears she was influenced by extremist material on the web. I welcome reports today that this material is being removed from YouTube.

I want to thank all those at The London Hospital whose swift action and care have enabled me to make a rapid recovery.  I am grateful to the police officers who have kept me well informed since the attack.  And sincere thanks to some 2000 people who sent me messages of support after the attack.

After a short break, I returned to the House of Commons in June and am thoroughly enjoying doing the job I was elected to do."

Miss Choudhry was found guilty of attempted murder and two counts of possessing a knife . She was jailed for a minimum of 15 years
