In response to today’s employment statistics, Stephen Timms MP, the Shadow Minister for Employment, made the following comment:

“These figures show the continuing benefit of measures taken by the previous Government to support families and support the economy.  The major worry for employment is the effect of the Government’s cuts next year.  The Government has recognised that half a million public sector jobs will be lost as a result – other experts expect it to be more.  And PricewaterhouseCooper has estimated that the cuts will also lead to the loss of half a million private sector jobs.  January’s VAT rise is another worry for future job prospects.”
