"Friday's events have given rise to understandable concerns in our community. I met with the police at their request at Forest Gate on Friday morning, and remained in contact with them over the weekend.
This morning I have met with the Home Secretary, John Reid, and pressed him to make public as soon as possible information about the background to the raid. He informed me that, as soon as the shot had been fired, the police operation was halted so that the Independent Police Complaints Commission could start an investigation. From that point, he said, the police are not able to make public comments about what happened - and one of the problems has been that others have been coming up with theories of their own.
I have requested that my contact number should be passed to the other family members in case there is anything I can do to help them."
