On Friday 1 December Stephen Timms officially opened Gallions Primary School’s ‘Garden of Life’ in memory of pupil, Mehnoor Khawaja, who died in 2005 aged 6.

The Garden, designed by top London garden designer, Barbara Hunt, serves as a place of peace and reflection for pupils at the school. Mehnoor’s family were consulted on the garden’s design so that it would incorporate all of the things that she loved.

The garden’s central feature is a reflecting bowl, filled with water to celebrate life. The garden also contains beautiful mosaics designed by pupils at the school.

Stephen Timms said of the garden: “Head Teacher, Bernadette Thompson, and staff at the school have worked hard to help pupils at Gallions Primary celebrate the life of their friend.  The garden gives all pupils at the school a place to be still and celebrate life.”
