The children at the Islamic Circles Supplementary School received a surprise last week when their local MP, Stephen Timms, appeared to judge their Eid card competition.

Eid is an Islamic festival celebrating the end of Ramadan, a holy Islamic month where Muslims fast between dawn and sunset. The Islamic Supplementary School meets at the Froud Christian Centre and the school's Eid Card competition was judged by both Stephen Timms MP and Revd Brian J Lewis, vicar of St Michael's Parish Church whose sanctuary is inside the Froud Centre and who has worked closely with the School.

Stephen Timms said "Ramadan is about self-discipline and generosity. At a time when Islam is in the news so much, I'm proud that in Newham faith communities are working together to show how we can learn from one another."
