My Friday began with a number of appointments in East Ham. After visiting a local dental practice, to discuss the arrangements for funding dentists, I caught up with a firm based in Newham called Slivers of Time at their offices in Stratford. They have designed a system allowing people to manage and sell their labour in short ‘slivers of time’ as opposed to the standard system of structured working hours. They already have several large national clients and the potential for the firm’s product could be very large.
I then attended the re-opening of the Blakeberry Pharmacy in East Ham High Street South. It was a lively event with some very distinguished visitors. The Blakeberry is now able to offer enhanced clinical care services.
After lunch I had a meeting with Pamela Gardner of East Thames housing who informed me of a rather ingenious scheme being operated in conjunction with other housing associations in London named the G15 London Moves. Sustainable employment is its main objective, and residents are able to transfer to a new home closer to work if they are being burdened by excessive travel times and distance.
My day ended as usual by holding my regular Friday surgery at the Beckton Globe.
