   28 April 2006
I began today with a visit to Hackney Benefit Processing Centre to meet with the new manager Sham Singh. Following that, I attended a briefing with Superintendent Michael Johnson and MP Lyn Brown, on current policing issues in Newham. I then headed off to the Excel Centre to meet with Director James Buchan. At the Excel centre I was given a briefing on the plans for expansion of the centre and the development of the surrounding area. In the afternoon I visited the Well Community Centre in East Ham whose children's work and elder's project is providing an important service to the community. Finally, I met with directors of Tate and Lyle, where I was updated on the running of a business centred in the heart of our community, employing many East London residents.
