Today I took part in an "End Child Poverty" event at City Hall, where I listened to East London families speaking about their experiences of poverty, and discussed what more needs to be done to ensure that the Government's target of ending child poverty by 2020 is met. I then visited the University of East London, where I met John O'Sullivan of XOR Ltd to learn more about the educational learning software he is developing, and the work he is currently doing for the Department of Work and Pensions developing e-learning materials. I then had a meeting with representatives of the Janani Luwum Trust, to find out about their work establishing a theological college in Northern Uganda. Later in the afternoon I met with representatives of both the Anjuman-e-Islamia mosque and Newham Council to try and resolve some planning issues relating to the building.
