I began my day addressing a number of journalists and business people at a Breakfast meeting. My speech centred on this week’s budget. I spoke about what the Government is doing to support business in the current economic climate. I then met with a young constituent who is planning to be fashion designer before moving onto a meeting with the League of British Muslims. The LBM is a voluntary organisation that supports Muslim-led voluntary and community organisations throughout the UK.
Afterwards I visited the Petchey Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of East London. On my arrival I was met by Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Susan Price who showed me around the Centre. I met some of the entrepreneurs that are based at UEL. A personal highlight was dropping into the Xing Business Games in the Skillzone to meet some of the students.
I then went to a lunch with a group of pensioners who live on Bluebell Avenue and spoke to them about their times living in and around Newham. Later that day I met with some members of the Beckton community, along with a group of Councillors, who had voiced concerns over the walkways in the area.
After my surgery in Beckton Globe, I attended the Air Cadets Awards Evening. |
