   19 June 2009

I started the day by travelling to Bishops Stortford to address the Newham Association of Secondary Heads Conference. I spoke to them about how the current economic climate will impact on education and the leadership of schools in Newham. Afterwards, I travelled back to East Ham and met with David Foster of the Manor Park Christian Centre. I visited Kensington Primary School before addressing a number of A-level students at Newham College. The students I spoke to are preparing to sit their final exams later this month – I wish them all best of luck!

After my surgery at East Ham Town Hall I attended a basketball match between the Newham All Star Sports Academy and the Metropolitan Police. Afterwards, the Police participated in a question and answer session with the young players. This helped raise awareness about NASSA’s current project, Carry A Ball, Not A Blade. The event showcased the great work that NASSA has done in promoting good relations between young people and the Police.
