I began my day with a meeting with Joe Duckworth, the Chief Executive of Newham Council and Lyn Brown, MP for West Ham. We discussed a variety of local issues.
I then travelled to the studios of Voice of Africa Radio (VOAR). VOAR is a community radio station based in Newham. They were concerned about the interference of pirate stations to their frequency. The continual interference has seriously disrupted their services to the community. I was then interviewed on air and spoke about how radio broadcasters, such as VOAR, help in promoting community cohesion.
Afterwards, I met with the artist “Azam”. He is a remarkable person and I wrote about him in my regular column in the Newham Recorder. You can read the article here.
I then attended a meeting at Newham City Farm before moving onto Essex Primary School for an assembly to celebrate the school’s International Music Week.
I ended the day by having one of my regular surgeries, where I met with constituents to discuss issues of concern to them. |
